From March 11 to 22, the SET University team with the support of the USAID Competitive Economy Program in Ukraine (USAID CEP)  held an intensive bootcamp for tech projects whose founders are women or whose core teams are 70% women. The bootcamp was called We. Brave and its goal was to provide participants with the necessary expertise and networking to successfully develop projects, create new jobs, and enter new markets. Twenty-five startup teams were selected for the bootcamp, including products from the following areas: Edtech, Recruitment & HRtech, Cybersecurity, Healthcare, Wellness, Self-development, AR/VR, and Service sector. The three winning teams received an additional budget of $6500 for consulting and mentoring to further develop their businesses.

In this article, we tell you about one of the winners of the bootcamp, Consultacia, and share the impressions of its co-founder Yulia Tychynska

Product Background

Consultacia is an AI tool designed to help doctors interpret blood tests, minimizing routine work and optimizing their time.

The product’s founders, Yulia Tychynska and Bohdan Khaietskyi, have worked in medical-related fields for many years. Yulia created and managed mobile applications in telemedicine and established a Facebook community with over 56,000 followers for free medical assistance. Bohdan is the owner of the MED OK network of private medical centers.

With significant experience in the field, the partners identified a clear problem: upon receiving the results of a blood test, people rush to interpret them themselves, resorting to searching for information on Google, in free forums and social media groups, or reaching out to all their acquaintances who are doctors. However, qualified doctors cannot quickly respond to these requests due to their high workload. As a result, those seeking interpretation experience anxiety and stress, while doctors feel dissatisfaction and concern of their patients.

Consultacia is focused specifically on doctors and will help optimize their work so that they can process a larger number of patient requests more quickly. Artificial intelligence, trained on the basis of 500,000 tests from 5 countries, will assist in interpreting the data.

“The most common request from patients worldwide is to interpret blood test results. But so far, no one can do this automatically,” Yulia said during the final pitch of the bootcamp.

The team started to work on Consultacia in 2023. Currently, the product team consists of 8 people, and they have already developed and tested the technology through which the artificial intelligence model will be trained.

One of the major hurdles during this phase of product development has been securing partnerships with clinics and laboratories to obtain the data necessary to train the model. “Another challenge we encountered at the bootcamp was identifying a viable business model and understanding how to effectively market the product to different markets,” Yulia shared with the SET University team.

Key takeaways from the bootcamp

During the bootcamp, it became evident that some mentors had experience implementing similar products and addressing similar challenges. Workshops and mentorship sessions with these individuals proved most beneficial for the Consultacia team, providing deep insights into how to further develop the product and which markets to target. Now, Yulia and Bohdan’s team plans to introduce their product to the market as early as 2024, starting in Ukraine. During the sales process, they will continue to train the model and constantly update the capabilities of the AI assistant for doctors. The next market on their radar is North America.

“During the bootcamp, we received news from our first partner who agreed to collaborate with us and provide data for training the model. I can confidently say that this success was directly attributed to the bootcamp, as the mentoring process gave us a clear understanding of how to present our idea. We adjusted our presentation approach, and it yielded immediate results,” Yulia shared.

Furthermore, the founders realized during the program that they needed to expand the team to enhance efficiency. They have already brought on board two new members: an ML engineer and a data science specialist. In the near future, the team plans to open several more positions for ML engineers and MLOps specialists.

Consultacia's founder Yulia on the bootcamp experience

“Acquiring such expertise can take years. Here, in just 2 weeks, you get everything. So, you don’t waste time. Startups need to grow quickly, and it is the economy of time and the high concentration of precise knowledge and expertise that are the greatest value of the bootcamp. I am very grateful to the USAID CEPand SET University for the opportunity to receive this training for our team.”
