SET at IT Arena: how it was

SET University's team and teachers spoke at the country's main IT event.

On October 6, our team traveled to Lviv to tell more about IT education, cybersecurity, and networking.

This year’s speakers from SET were top cybersecurity experts and our teachers – Nick Gicinto and Owen O’Connor. They spoke at Tech Track, a section on industry innovations. They discussed the secure future and global and Ukrainian experience. And, of course, they shared their own experience on how to get started in the cybersecurity industry and what skill sets to use.

"There are so many people in the industry who are really willing and ready to help! That's actually why Owen O'Connor and I are here today. We want to help the Ukrainian community."
said Nick Gicinto, a participant of Lviv IT Arena and an adjunct professor at SET University.

In addition to the main stage, we organized several side events:

  • Skills and jobs for the future Ukraine – a panel discussion in partnership with USAID. We discussed how Ukrainians can prepare for the requirements of the external labor market while overcoming the challenges of wartime. Our speakers were Gauthier Vasser (Director of the Fisher Center for Business Intelligence at the University of California), Rhonda Schrader (Executive Director at Berkeley Haas Entrepreneurship), and Maksym Pochebut (Academic Director of SET University).
  • Startup Agility at the chaos: The Art of Rapid Adaptation is a workshop in partnership with the Ukrainian Startup Fund and Sigma Software Labs. The main topic of the workshop was failure as a part of success. Strong founders shared their own cases about challenges and unobvious opportunities, as well as useful tips and insights. SET was represented at the workshop by Iryna Volnytska (President of SET University) and Rhonda Schrader (Executive Director at Berkeley Haas Entrepreneurship).
  • Innovation vs. Cybersecurity – about the balance between the use of the latest technologies and the company’s security in cyberspace. We discussed how to make decisions about technology development in a world where the number of cyber threats is constantly increasing. SET was represented by Yevheniia Klepa (Director of Innovation and Partnerships at SET University), Nick Gicinto (ex-CIA, Uber, Tesla), and Owen O’Connor (ex-SalesForce).
