Apixmed: how a new startup is reshaping traditional medicine with big data

AI is dramatically transforming the HealthTech industry: it identifies hidden patterns in examination results, instantly processes input data to find optimal solutions, and provides precise recommendations based on years of medical expertise and modern developments.
One such forward-looking solution emerged in Ukraine in 2020 to streamline the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. Meet the second winner of the Generation H initiative—Apixmed, a platform for personalized medicine that analyzes genetic and medical data with the help of big data.
How the idea of Apixmed came about
Apixmed is a B2B2C SaaS platform for hospitals and laboratories, which analyzes patients’ genetic and medical information. Its aim is to make medical developments more widely accessible and treatment more precise by conducting a full analysis of patient information, utilizing a set of algorithms, and automating doctors’ decision-making processes.
Apixmed’s founders—Marina Korshevnik, Yevhen Havrylyuk, and Andriy Nevzorov—had been working in the field of medical research and software development, where they encountered the challenge of lengthy and complex diagnoses of chronic diseases.
“We realized that even before the COVID-19 crisis, the healthcare system was inefficient. Our solution automates doctors’ routine processes and helps patients receive tailored recommendations that are based not only on standard protocols, but also on each person’s unique physical traits. After all, health is not just the absence of disease; it’s understanding your body, its risks, and its capabilities. Apixmed helps users learn more about themselves through data analysis,” says Marina Korshevnyuk.
What makes Apixmed unique
Apixmed analyzes medical data with algorithms built on big data. It then creates recommendations that help doctors quickly identify the causes of a condition and make personalized decisions for each patient, taking into account their individual medical history and genetic data.
Key features of the platform:
An automated system for analyzing medical records
Early detection of disease risks
Automatic data interpretation and generation of personalized reports
“We offer not just information but specific recommendations for patient care and treatment, factoring in genetic aspects, possible health risks, and the body’s reaction to various medications,” adds Marina Korshevnyuk.
How Apixmed works
Apixmed operates in two main areas:
Disease Risk Assessment
Analyzes genetic markers for over 200 diseases (cardiovascular, metabolic, oncological, and more).
Examines the patient’s medical history and biometric data.
Identifies individual risks of disease occurrence and provides recommendations for prevention and risk reduction.
The founders emphasize that if a person understands their genetic profile, they can choose the most suitable treatment approach and prevent possible complications. This allows for a proactive strategy rather than dealing with consequences.
Pharmacogenomics
The platform analyzes how each individual patient may respond to certain medications, based on DNA characteristics.
It helps doctors select effective drugs and avoid the use of ineffective or hazardous treatments.
Pharmacogenomics makes it possible to determine in advance which medications will work and which may not be beneficial for a specific patient.
“Our system doesn’t just check a chosen treatment against general protocols, but also uses big data and modern approaches to deliver more accurate results and a tailored approach,” says Marina.
How Generation H helped Apixmed
“Generation H helped us not only secure funding, but also understand how to scale our business, find partners, and build a long-term development strategy,” Marina explains.
As part of the training, Apixmed received a mini-grant of $500 from Productor for developing a marketing plan to attract investment.
Tips for startups
Launch earlier than you think you should.
“If you’re not embarrassed by your first product, you launched too late.”Build a strong team.
“Nothing works without the right people. If you don’t have talented and driven individuals who can solve problems, it’s not worth starting.”Engage users from day one.
“Always test your product with real users. The sooner you get feedback, the sooner you can adapt your solution to genuine needs.”
Apixmed proves that new approaches and big data can change medicine, making it personalized, effective, and safe.
